Transitional Space (fine art degree show 2022)

This work explores the idea of ‘forgotten utopias’ through Newcastle City Council’s, ‘City in the sky’ vision.

This vision sought to redevelop the city in the 1960s, with pedestrian walkways above street level in areas such as John Dobson Street and Princess Square. The modernist dream to create a transitional space for pedestrians to meander through the city separate from traffic lies incomplete and derelict. However, it is this dystopian reality I have investigated through photographs, sound recordings, walking and material explorations on site. In the studio, I have transformed these resources into sculptures and installations using collected debris and cast surfaces.
